Watch Out for Loan Mod and Foreclosure Prevention Scams

I am hearing as much about the scams of the loan modification and foreclosure prevention companies, as I am the services they offer.  A few weeks ago I spoke with 3 San Diegans at the Homeowners Opportunity Collaborative (a clinic to help struggling homeowners) who lost their homes when they signed over deeds to the very people who claimed they would help them.  Yesterday’s SDUT had 2 articles on the front page detailing more scams and ruined lives.

Here is a resource put out by the California Association of Realtors that is intended to get the word out to unsuspecting homeowners who may fall victim to these devils.  Read it and let me know if you have any questions.  Whatever you do, DO NOT EVER sign anything without understanding exactly what it is and NEVER sign over the deed to your home unless it is part of a real escrow closing where the buyer is offering full market value for the home.  Read this and protect yorself and your home!
